Alex, let’s get to know you! Tell us about your journey to becoming a fitness instructor.
I started taking Spinning classes about 5 years ago. I fell off for a little bit, but once I got back into it I knew I wanted to teach! I was trying all different studios in my area and made a mental note of my favorite part of each class, and what made a great instructor. Summer of 2019, I took the plunge and got certified through Mad Dogg! I now teach at a studio in Boston and I am starting to incorporate Boot Camp classes into my schedule!
As a coach, what are your top sources of inspiration and motivation?
Learning from others! I love receiving feedback from both riders and other instructors.
What have been some learnings you’ve had being a fitness instructor that you wish you knew when you first began? Any advice you’d give to brand new instructors?
It is not as easy as it looks! Take your time and be patient with yourself. Practice constantly and don’t give up!
In times of uncertainty, anxiety, and activism, what do you tell your clients to help them stay strong and push through?
You are stronger than you think you are! I always want to be a motivation to my clients no matter where they’re at in life and fitness.
Lightning round! Give us your top pick for each of these:
Motivation Mantra: “I can and I will”
Signature Move (in class): Crunches and what I like to call “Hand Walks” where you go from position 3 to 4 then back, one hand at a time on the beat.
Spirit Animal: Cat (Cuddly but feisty)
Walk-on Song: Hot in Herre, a legendary #TBT
Fave Themed Class: Rave Ride
If there’s anything about using Struct Club that has aided you and you feel inclined to share, we would love to know!
Struct Club has helped me so much with building my classes and playlists. It cut the prep and memorization time down so much!
