Meeting Coach Tanisha Johnson!

Tanisha is first a mother and an activist who loves to use the bike as a time to find the happy moments in life while sweating off the stress. When she’s not behind the zooms of work advocating for children and family services or voicing to the world that Black Lives Matter, you’ll find her jamming to the latest song and living life to the fullest.

Work out with Tanisha on the Struct Club app! Ride to some of your favorite R&B songs remixed! 30 minutes of high-intensity cardio working your full body from those legs, to that core, to those arms. This ride will have you mostly out the saddle working up a sweat - so grab your towel, water, and singing voice!

You can get her Remixed to Ride class individually, or with STRUCT On-Demand for UNLIMITED classes from all of our instructors!

Music is my inspiration and motivation. When I have a stressed or happy moment – I can play a song to get me through it. But as a coach, my top source of motivation is knowing my end game.”

Let’s get to know you! Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a fitness instructor?

My journey started a few years ago following my career working within the YMCA. I decided: if I am talking to others about their health journey and motivating them to take an active role in their health, I should do the same. I also began to have back issues with a herniated disc in my spine and that required me to work on my flexibility, core, and weight loss. While getting back into a healthy lifestyle, I took an interest in indoor cycling and began riding just about daily. Between my love of music and riding – it became my escape, my love, and my stress reducer. After taking classes and using other fitness apps, I decided to teach myself. Once I started teaching, playing with music, understanding how to get a full body workout on the bike, I could not turn back. I enjoy spreading this love with others now.

How would your riders describe your classes?

Riders would describe my class as a music concert where you burn lots of calories! It’s an intense ride where we vibe to the music, which makes the ride so much easier. You won’t even realize the hills and sprints, because you will be singing your heart out!

As a coach, what are your top sources of inspiration and motivation?

Music is my inspiration and motivation. When I have a stressed or happy moment – I can play a song to get me through it. But as a coach, my top source of motivation is knowing my end game. My goal is to not be skinny – but to love myself and be healthy. With that as my inspiration, I have a different perspective on what I can do and be. Loving yourself should be everyone’s motivation!

What have been some learnings you’ve had being a fitness instructor that you wish you knew when you first began? Any advice you’d give to brand new instructors?

1.     It’s okay to mess up – you are human!

2.     Don’t memorize everything, and go with the flow!

3.     Teaching the class is not your workout! Spend more time coaching others instead!

4.     If you don’t enjoy it, don’t do it!

Lightning round! Give us your top pick for each of these:

If there's anything about using Struct Club that has aided you and you feel inclined to share, we'd love to know!

Feeling comfort in teaching! To know that I don’t need to know everything because Struct Club has my back! In starting to teach, I had anxiety about making sure I remembered the moves and times – Struct Club took that anxiety off of me.
