“Everyone has a different teaching style and a different way to motivate clients. Every instructor has to find their own voice to connect with their community. This takes time and practice”

Jasmin, let’s get to know you! Tell us about your journey to becoming a fitness instructor.

I've always been an active person. As a child, I swam and did martial arts for about six years. When I was 16 I joined a gym, started weight lifting and participating in the occasional group fitness class. At that time, I was enrolled in a four-year apprenticeship as a holistic pharmacy technician. After graduating, I wanted to expand my knowledge and decided to go to the University of Madison, Wisconsin to study English as a Second Language (ESL). During that time, I learned that Madison College offered a fitness degree which caught my attention, and I enrolled. The program is awesome, and I will graduate Fall 2020 with an Associates degree in Fitness and Recreation Management. At school I got certified as an ACE group fitness instructor and ACE sports nutrition specialist. That’s how it all started.

We were honored to have you be a part of the Struct Scholars program - can you share about your experience and things you took away from the program?

I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to meet amazing women from our industry and learn from them through the mentorship program, webinars, and meetings. As a young woman just starting out in the fitness industry I gained so much knowledge, support, and confidence throughout the program that will push me to become the best version of myself. The networking opportunities really helped open new doors in regards to my career and personal development. I will always cherish those connections I made during the program.

As a coach, what are your top sources of inspiration and motivation?

Knowing that I'm helping someone change their life for the better is my true inspiration. Seeing other women in the fitness industry succeed and impact their community warms my heart and fills me with positive energy.

What have been some learnings you’ve had being a fitness instructor that you wish you knew when you first began? Any advice you’d give to brand new instructors?

I’m still at the start of my career, but I learned that everyone has a different teaching style and a different way to motivate clients. Every instructor has to find their own voice to connect with their community. This takes time and practice, and I’m still figuring this out for myself. It helps to listen to other instructors and their teaching styles to borrow inspiration from them while I'm grooming my own.

In times of uncertainty and anxiety, what do you tell your clients to help them stay strong and push through?

The current situation slowed us down and made us think more about what is really important and what areas we need to work on. Together we can get through this.

Lightning round! Give us your top pick for each of these:

Motivation Mantra: Balance is key.

Fave Move in a Workout: Squat

Spirit Animal: Jaguar

Walk-on Song: Run The Show - Kat Deluma feat. Busta Rhymes

Fave Musical Artist: I can’t decide 😆

If there’s anything about using Struct Club that has aided you and you feel inclined to share, we would love to know!

Struct Club makes it so much easier to choreograph a workout because everything can be done in the app. Additionally, I think the fact that I can use songs I love makes the workout so much better. The songs push me to perform my best. I recommend the app to every fitness instructor. 😃
